“Prima che la mente lo comprenda, il cuore già lo sa”. Cuore inteso quale sede emotiva o luogo designato del percepire corporeo. Dove si provano le emozioni con tutta una serie di sensazioni che s’irradiano e risalgono istantaneamente per essere esternate nelle tipiche espressioni del viso, la postura, il tono della voce. In seguito la mente darà un significato simbolizzando quelle emozioni appena percepite. Anche un odore, un sapore, un’immagine, un suono, il toccar qualcosa di ruvido o morbido, stimolando prima i nostri organi di senso li trasforma da sensazioni in emozioni e di seguito anche in sentimenti. Come succede da millenni quando quel corpo apparteneva ancora ai nostri progenitori che mancando di parola per esprimere un concetto, avevano questo mezzo efficace per comunicare al simile quel che li colpiva dell’ambiente circostante o percepiva dentro di sè. Un mezzo così necessario per la sopravvivenza e la crescita del singolo e della comunità di appartenenza.
Recenti ricerche scientifiche hanno evidenziato che proviamo emozioni ben prima della nostra nascita. Vi è un cambiamento di stato per es. quiete/attivazione o spiacevole/piacevole quando il feto, risponde ad un gesto o un suono che attraversando il liquido amniotico nel quale è immerso, va a stimolare alcuni dei suoi recettori sensoriali. Gli organi di senso si sviluppano intorno all’ottava settimana di gestazione per il tatto, tra la tredicesima e la quindicesima per gusto e olfatto e la venticinquesima per l’udito, mentre la vista si svilupperà necessariamente dopo la nascita.
Le emozioni si provano fino alla nostra morte e alle quali siamo ancor più sensibili quando la nostra componente cognitiva deve fare i conti con sindromi come quella di Alzheimer. La quale, compromettendo la memoria, ne compromette a sua volta pure la coscienza. Saremmo forse “non in grado di intendere e volere” ma saremmo ancora più “in grado di sentire e di provare”.
Emozioni e sentimenti riescono a riverberarsi intorno a noi in coloro i quali ci stanno aspettando per darci il benvenuto in questo mondo, nel momento del commiato dopo la nostra morte e talvolta perfino indirettamente per la notorietà delle nostre imprese. Talvolta si sente dire: “ha compiuto il gesto in un raptus” oppure “non è/era in grado di intendere o di volere” per sottolineare la momentanea o permanente perdita di volontà o di controllo di taluni impulsi, quasi a sottolineare quanto il nostro sistema nervoso autonomo, non mediato dalla razionalità, possa essere influente sul nostro agire.
Durante la vita le emozioni si strutturano in qualcosa di più duraturo e persistente chiamato sentimenti che permetteranno alla persona di sviluppare una sorta di apprendistato emozionale che la renderanno consapevole di riconoscerli, comprenderli e gestirli in sè e negli altri.
